I was recently impressed to watch out for doctrine that emphasizes a passive approach toward seeking God. I heard someone say they don’t believe in pressing in or seeking hard after God because everything has already been revealed so all they have to do is accept it and let God minister his truths to them.
Hmm this sounds a little too easy to me does it to you? Like many things in our christian lives I believe striving towards God and not striving but allowing him to do work in our lives is a balancing act. There are times when we can push too hard maybe demanding a healing of God that he isn’t willing to produce. Sometimes we need to get out of the way and let God do what he wants to do. That being said I believe the bible clearly tells us we have a responsibility to earnestly seek God and as a result our minds and hearts are transformed more into his image. This is what growing in Christ is all about.
God has won every war for us already when he died on the cross. He has also made known to man his plans for us already, we don’t have to force him to do anything it’s already done, wow! But just because he’s accomplished everything already doesn’t mean we get a ticket to ride. We still have to open the bible, spend time in prayer, earnestly seek God and press in for the renewal of our minds through revelation. Simply put it’s a two way street. God doesn’t come to man unless man is willing to come to him also.
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14 KJV)
“From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.” (Matthew 11:12)
Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.. (James 4:8)
